Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport

Opa-locka handles more private jet traffic than any other general aviation airport in South Florida. Its position in the northwest corner of Miami-Dade County keeps it well away from the commercial traffic at Miami International, which sits about 8 miles to the south. There are no slot requirements and no prior permission needed for domestic arrivals.

The airport has multiple FBOs serving the full range of charter and owner-flown traffic. Ramp space is ample by South Florida standards, though during Art Basel in December and the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix weekend in May, the ramps fill quickly and fuel and handling should be arranged well in advance. On a normal week, this is one of the easier airports in the region to operate into and out of.

CBP is available on-site for international arrivals, which makes Opa-locka a practical alternative to clearing customs at Miami International or Fort Lauderdale. Confirm CBP appointment availability with your FBO before departure, especially on weekends.

Downtown Miami is about 14 miles southeast, typically 25 to 40 minutes by car depending on traffic on the 836 or I-95. Miami Beach is roughly 18 miles, usually 30 to 50 minutes. Brickell and Wynwood are both under 15 miles. Car service and SUV transport are easy to arrange through the FBOs. The airport is not well-served by rideshare pickup directly at the ramp, so pre-arranged ground transport is the practical option for most passengers.
