Pittsburgh International Airport

KPIT PIT Pittsburgh, PA

KPIT is the ICAO code for Pittsburgh International Airport (IATA PIT), located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Pittsburgh's primary commercial and private aviation airport, 17 miles west of downtown and well-suited for international arrivals with on-site customs.

Airport guide

Pittsburgh International handles both scheduled commercial traffic and private aviation from a single campus on the city's west side. Private aircraft use the general aviation ramp on the north end of the field, served by Signature Flight Support. The FBO offers standard amenities: crew lounge, fuel, catering coordination, and rental cars on site. Because KPIT lost its US Airways hub in 2004 and never fully rebounded to the same commercial volume, the airport runs quieter than its infrastructure suggests. Ramp congestion is rarely an issue, and there are no slot requirements.

The airport has U.S. Customs and Border Protection on site, which makes it a practical entry point for international charter arrivals into western Pennsylvania. Pre-clearance is not available, but CBP can be scheduled for private international arrivals in advance through the FBO. The field operates around the clock with no formal noise curfew.

Getting there

Downtown Pittsburgh is 17 miles east via I-376 (the Parkway West). Under normal traffic the drive runs 25 to 35 minutes. During rush hour on weekday afternoons, add 15 to 20 minutes. Ground car services such as Commonwealth Worldwide and local operators serve the FBO directly; the FBO desk can arrange pickups with advance notice. Ride-share is available but pickup zones are on the commercial side, a short walk or van ride from the GA ramp. There is no helicopter shuttle to the city center.
