Charleston International Airport

Charleston International is a joint-use facility shared with Joint Base Charleston, an active Air Force installation. This affects airspace management and, on occasion, creates temporary flight restrictions during military operations. For private passengers, the practical result is a well-staffed, operationally mature airport with no slot requirements and no commercial airline congestion comparable to larger hubs.

Signature Flight Support is the main FBO on the field, offering full ground handling, fuel, and passenger services. The terminal experience is calm by major airport standards. The airport operates 24 hours and has no published noise curfew. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is available for international arrivals.

Charleston sees heavy seasonal demand, particularly March through May during the azalea and wedding seasons, and again in October. Ramp space can tighten during large events such as Spoleto Festival USA in late May and early June. Booking ground handling in advance during peak periods avoids delays.

Downtown Charleston is 12 miles southeast of the airport, typically 20 to 25 minutes by car outside peak traffic. The Ravenel Bridge and Meeting Street corridor can add 10 minutes during afternoon rush hour. Car service and black car providers operate from the FBO with advance notice. Kiawah Island is about 45 miles from the airport, roughly 50 minutes. Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms are 30 to 35 minutes northeast. Mount Pleasant, across the harbor from downtown, is about 25 minutes.
