LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia is a commercial-primary airport operating under FAA slot controls. Private jets can fly here, but each operation requires an FAA slot authorization obtained in advance. Most private aviation serving the New York City metro uses Teterboro (KTEB) in New Jersey instead, which has no slot requirements and a dedicated FBO infrastructure. LGA makes sense when your destination is on the Queens or Long Island side of the city, or when Teterboro is unavailable.

Signature Flight Support operates the FBO at LGA. The airport has noise abatement procedures in effect late night and early morning, which can affect scheduling. The ongoing terminal reconstruction program has improved the commercial side of the airport significantly, but private passengers should expect a different experience than at a dedicated business aviation airport. Runway congestion and commercial traffic delays are a factor, particularly during peak hours.

Midtown Manhattan is about 8 miles from LGA, but drive times vary widely with traffic, typically 20 to 45 minutes. The Queens Midtown Tunnel and RFK Bridge are the main routes. Car service and black car companies operate from the airport. For time-sensitive arrivals, helicopter transfer to the East 34th Street Heliport takes roughly 7 minutes and bypasses ground traffic entirely. Downtown Manhattan and the Financial District add another 4 to 5 miles to the drive.
