Reno Tahoe International Airport

KRNO sits at 4,415 feet elevation in the high desert, which affects aircraft performance. Density altitude is a real consideration in summer months, and passengers on smaller jets may notice a longer ground roll on warm afternoons. Winter operations can be disrupted by Sierra storm systems, though the airport itself clears quickly. No slot controls or prior permission requirements apply to private aircraft.

Two FBOs serve the private aviation market: Signature Flight Support and Atlantic Aviation. Both offer standard private terminal amenities including passenger lounges, catering coordination, and crew accommodations. CBP is available for international arrivals. The airport handles a significant volume of ski season charter traffic from November through April, so FBO ramp space can be tight on winter weekends during peak holiday periods. Booking handling in advance is recommended for those dates.

Downtown Reno is 4 miles from the FBOs, typically 10 to 15 minutes by car. South Lake Tahoe runs about 55 miles via US-50 through Carson City, usually 60 to 75 minutes in clear conditions. Plan for 90 minutes or more during ski season weekends or active winter weather. Palisades Tahoe and the North Lake Tahoe resorts are roughly 45 miles via I-80 west, around 50 to 60 minutes in normal conditions.

Several Reno car service operators specialize in lake and mountain transfers and can handle ski equipment and large groups. Rental cars are available at the main terminal adjacent to the FBOs. No scheduled helicopter transfer operates between KRNO and the lake basin.
