About Stellar Aviation
Stellar Aviation opened its new terminal facility at Reno-Tahoe International Airport on May 23, 2024, following construction that began in February 2023. The project represented a $5 million private investment and added a 36,000-square-foot hangar to the campus, bringing total hangar and office space on the 14-acre site to over 75,000 square feet. The 6,000-square-foot terminal provides dedicated passenger facilities designed to serve the charter market moving through Reno for Lake Tahoe ski access and regional business aviation.
The facility operates 24/7 from its location on the south side of Reno-Tahoe International Airport, approximately 10 miles from downtown Reno.
Lake Tahoe ski resorts are 45 to 60 minutes from the airport in clear conditions. Heavenly Mountain Resort at South Lake Tahoe is approximately 60 minutes south via US-50. Northstar California Resort north of Tahoe City is approximately 65 minutes. Palisades Tahoe, which hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics and draws international visitors for its vertical drop of over 2,600 feet, is approximately 75 minutes northwest.
The expanded hangar capacity allows Stellar to accommodate large-cabin jets and multiple aircraft simultaneously during peak ski season weekends, when demand for ramp and hangar space at Reno compresses quickly. Covered hangar storage protects aircraft from the weather events that move through the Sierra Nevada, including atmospheric river storms that deposit heavy snow at the resorts and can leave aircraft on open ramps exposed to freezing rain and significant accumulation.
The new terminal positions Stellar as a full-service FBO competing directly for the Tahoe ski charter market. The facility handles fueling, aircraft staging, and passenger coordination for both leisure and corporate arrivals throughout the year.
