KMKE handles both commercial and private traffic on the same field, which means FBO access is straightforward but the airspace can be busy during peak commercial hours. Signature Flight Support operates the primary FBO on the south side of the field and offers the full range of services: fuel, crew cars, catering coordination, and hangar space. The facility is clean and functional, though not the most lavish in the region.

For passengers avoiding Chicago's congested O'Hare and Midway airports, Milwaukee is a legitimate alternative. The drive to the Loop runs 85 to 90 miles and takes about 90 minutes under normal conditions. That calculus works better on weekends and off-peak weekdays than during rush hour. For destinations in Milwaukee proper, the airport's location puts you close to the city without the routing headaches of a suburban reliever field.

The airport operates around the clock. There are no slot requirements for private operations, and while commercial gates dominate the terminal, private passengers clear FBO-side with no interaction with the main terminal.

Downtown Milwaukee is 6 miles north of the airport. A car service or rideshare runs about 15 to 20 minutes in normal traffic. The Pfister Hotel and the Third Ward are both under 25 minutes by car.

For Chicago-area travel, the drive to the Loop takes 85 to 100 miles depending on your destination and roughly 90 minutes without construction delays. Amtrak's Hiawatha service runs between Milwaukee's downtown station and Chicago Union Station, but the station is a separate leg from the airport. Most passengers heading to Chicago use car service direct from the FBO.
