Cape Cod Gateway Airport is the practical alternative to sitting in bridge traffic. The Bourne and Sagamore bridges are the only road access to Cape Cod, and on summer Friday afternoons the backup can stretch two hours or more. Flying into KHYA puts you on the Cape in the time it takes to clear the on-ramp. That dynamic makes this airport disproportionately busy from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with private traffic peaking on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings.

The airport is uncontrolled below Class D airspace and has no slot requirements, but expect ramp congestion during peak summer weekends. FBO services are available on the field. The facility is a medium general aviation airport with paved runways suitable for light jets and most midsize aircraft. Heavy jets and ultra-long-range aircraft should confirm runway length and weight limits with their operator before booking.

Hyannis center is about 3 miles from the airport, roughly 10 minutes by car. Car service and rental cars are available on the field. The Hyannis ferry terminal, where high-speed boats depart for Nantucket (about 1 hour) and Martha's Vineyard (about 55 minutes), is under 2 miles from the airport. If your final destination is Nantucket or the Vineyard and conditions allow, many operators can fly direct to ACK or MVY instead. Boston is 70 miles by road, but plan for 90 minutes to 2.5 hours in summer depending on bridge wait times.
