Santa Barbara Municipal Airport is a relaxed, uncongested alternative to LAX or Burbank for anyone heading to the South Coast or the Santa Ynez Valley wine country. No slot requirements, no congestion delays, and general aviation traffic moves quickly. The airport handles a mix of commercial regional jets and private traffic, but the GA ramp stays manageable year-round.

The airport has a noise abatement curfew restricting jet departures and arrivals between 11pm and 7am. If your itinerary runs late, plan your departure before 11pm or arrange an overnight stay. Downtown Santa Barbara is 8 miles from the terminal, a 10 to 15 minute drive via US-101. Most charter passengers use a car service or rental car. Enterprise, Hertz, and Budget all have counters at the airport. Los Angeles is roughly 90 to 95 miles south, about 1.5 to 2 hours by car depending on traffic on the 101 and 405. Santa Ynez Valley wine country (Buellton, Solvang, Los Olivos) is 30 to 40 miles north, around 35 to 45 minutes. Montecito, where many private aviation passengers are ultimately headed, is about 5 miles from the airport.
