Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

BWI is primarily a commercial airport, which means private aviation passengers use FBO facilities on the general aviation ramp rather than the main terminal. Signature Flight Support operates the primary FBO. The ramp experience is straightforward, though the airport's commercial traffic volume means ground delays are possible during peak periods. Private operations are subject to the same noise abatement procedures that govern the broader airfield.

For passengers heading to Baltimore, BWI is the obvious choice. For Washington DC, it is the farthest of the three major airports from the city center, and depending on traffic, Reagan National (DCA) or Dulles (IAD) may be more practical. That said, some operators base out of BWI, so it appears frequently in regional empty leg availability. Customs and Border Protection services are available at BWI for international arrivals.

Downtown Baltimore (Inner Harbor) is about 10 miles north, typically 20 to 25 minutes by car. Washington DC is roughly 30 miles southwest; expect 45 to 60 minutes depending on Beltway traffic, and longer during rush hour. Annapolis is about 20 miles east, around 25 to 30 minutes. Car service and rideshare pickups are available at the terminal and FBO. The BWI Rail Station connects to MARC commuter trains into Baltimore Penn Station (about 25 minutes) and Amtrak trains to Washington Union Station (about 30 minutes), though this option requires a short shuttle from the terminal.
