Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

Reagan National is the most convenient airport for DC proper, but it is also one of the most regulated for private aviation in the country. All general aviation operations require compliance with the DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP), which mandates TSA-approved security procedures, passenger and crew screening, and an armed security officer on every flight. These requirements apply to all Part 135 charter operators. Plan ahead: the logistics take more coordination than a typical private departure.

The airport operates under the FAA High Density Rule, making it a slot-controlled facility. Slots for general aviation are limited and must be secured in advance. Last-minute departures here are harder to arrange than at Dulles or BWI. If your schedule is flexible, operators often recommend those alternatives for easier logistics and lower costs.

The FBO is Signature Flight Support, located on the south side of the field. The terminal is compact and efficient. For passengers who clear the DASSP requirements and secure a slot, the proximity to DC makes the extra coordination worthwhile.

Downtown DC is 4 to 6 miles from the terminal depending on your destination. The White House is about 4 miles, Capitol Hill about 5 miles, Georgetown about 4 miles. Drive times in normal traffic run 15 to 25 minutes. During rush hour on the 14th Street Bridge corridor, expect 30 to 45 minutes. The airport has a dedicated Metro station on the Blue and Yellow lines, with direct service to downtown DC in about 15 to 20 minutes. Car services and rideshare both operate from the terminal. For passengers connecting to northern Virginia or the Pentagon area, Reagan National is the obvious choice over Dulles.
