Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport

KBHM handles both commercial and private traffic on the same field, but private jets use dedicated FBO facilities that keep the experience separate from the main terminal. The airport has two runways (10,000 and 7,000 feet), which accommodates heavy and ultra-long-range jets without restriction. There are no slot controls and no prior permission requirements for domestic arrivals.

Two FBOs operate at BHM. Million Air Birmingham is the larger facility, with a full-service terminal, crew cars, and ramp space for large-cabin aircraft. Key City Air is the second option. Both offer ground handling, fuel, and catering coordination. The field is uncontrolled airspace outside tower hours but the tower runs extended hours covering most private operations.

Birmingham does not have a published noise curfew, though operators generally avoid late-night departures over residential areas to the west. No slot requirements, no overflight fees for domestic operations.

Downtown Birmingham is 5 miles southwest of the airport, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by car depending on traffic on I-20. The Summit shopping district is about 8 miles east. Ground transportation runs through car service and rental cars at the FBO. Luxury car service providers in the Birmingham area typically quote 20 minutes to UAB Medical Center and about 25 minutes to Vestavia Hills or Homewood. There is no helicopter transfer infrastructure at BHM.
