Abbotsford International Airport

Abbotsford International sits at the eastern edge of Metro Vancouver, roughly 70 km from downtown. For private passengers whose destination is Langley, Surrey, or anywhere in the Fraser Valley, it is often the better choice over YVR, which involves navigating one of Canada's busiest commercial airports with its attendant delays and ramp congestion.

Fast Air operates the FBO at CYXX and handles GA and charter traffic. The airport sees scheduled commercial service from ultra-low-cost carriers, but the GA ramp is separate and the experience is straightforward. Slots are not required. Expect a calm, uncongested environment compared to YVR.

CBSA customs is available at the airport for international arrivals, which is useful for flights crossing the US-Canada border. The Sumas/Abbotsford border crossing is approximately 4 km south of the airport, so the airport is also practical for passengers continuing by road into Washington State.

Downtown Vancouver is approximately 70 km west via Highway 1, a drive of 45 to 60 minutes in light traffic, longer during peak commute hours. Langley is about 25 km and 20 to 25 minutes. Surrey is roughly 35 km and 30 minutes. Chilliwack, 50 km east, is under 40 minutes.

Car rental desks are in the terminal. Private car services and limos are available by arrangement through the FBO. For passengers heading into Washington State, Bellingham is about 50 km south via the Sumas border crossing, under an hour by road.
