Vancouver International Airport

CYVR handles both commercial and private traffic on the same airfield. Private jets use dedicated FBO facilities on the south side of the airport. Signature Flight Support is the primary FBO, offering full ramp services, passenger lounges, fuel, and CBSA customs handling for international arrivals. The facility can manage large-cabin aircraft without issue.

The airport operates around the clock but follows noise abatement procedures overnight, with preferential runway assignments and restricted flight paths during late-night hours. Stage 2 aircraft are prohibited. During peak commercial bank times, particularly mid-morning and early afternoon, ramp movement can slow. Letting your FBO know your arrival window in advance helps avoid delays.

CYVR sits at sea level in the Fraser River delta, which means low cloud and reduced visibility are common in winter months, particularly from November through February. Instrument approaches are routine, but it is worth checking conditions when planning tight itineraries.

Downtown Vancouver is 16 km north of the airport via Highway 99 and the Granville Street or Oak Street corridors. In light traffic the drive takes 20-25 minutes. During weekday rush hours, particularly 7-9am and 4-7pm, the same trip can run 45-60 minutes. Black car and executive van services operate directly from the FBO ramp.

Whistler is roughly 125 km north on Highway 99, about 2 hours in normal conditions, longer in ski season on winter weekends. Helicopter transfers to downtown Vancouver or the North Shore are available from the airfield and cut the transit to under 10 minutes. The Canada Line SkyTrain connects the airport terminal to downtown in 25 minutes, though private jet passengers typically arrange ground transport through the FBO.
