Barrie-Lake Simcoe Regional Airport

Barrie-Lake Simcoe Regional Airport is the primary general aviation and charter gateway for central Ontario, covering the triangle between Toronto, Muskoka, and the Blue Mountain ski area. For passengers arriving from the US or abroad, CBSA customs services are available on site, though advance notice to the FBO is recommended to confirm officer availability.

The airport handles turboprops and light-to-midsize jets comfortably. It is considerably less congested than Toronto Pearson (CYYZ) or even Toronto City Centre (CYTZ), with no slot restrictions and no meaningful ground delays on departure. Both Chartright Air Group and Global Aviation Charter operate from here, so FBO handling and passenger facilities are well-established for charter traffic.

Winter is the busiest season. Passengers heading to Blue Mountain for skiing drive the majority of charter traffic from November through March. Plan accordingly if booking around holiday weekends.

Downtown Barrie is roughly 10 km from the airport, about 15 minutes by car. Toronto's downtown core is approximately 90 km south; drive time runs 1.5 to 2 hours depending on Highway 400 congestion, particularly on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. Blue Mountain and Collingwood are about 50 km to the west, a 45-minute drive. Muskoka cottage destinations such as Gravenhurst and Bracebridge are 50 to 80 km north, 50 to 75 minutes.

Car rentals are available at or near the airport. Taxis and rideshare apps serve the area. For groups heading to resort destinations, many resorts offer shuttle pickups from CYLS by arrangement.
