Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport

TUPJ is the sole international gateway to the British Virgin Islands and handles the majority of private charter arrivals to the territory. The airport sits on Beef Island, a small island connected to Tortola by the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. The runway (runway 08/26) is approximately 4,000 feet, which accommodates most light and midsize jets but limits heavier aircraft. Passengers planning to arrive on a large-cabin or ultra-long-range jet should verify aircraft suitability before booking.

The airport operates standard daytime hours and does not offer 24-hour operations. Scheduling arrivals well within daylight hours is practical. Facilities are modest but functional for private aviation: FBO services are available, and customs and immigration are processed on-site for international arrivals. The BVI is a British Overseas Territory, so passengers arriving from the US or USVI clear customs here. Peak season (December through April) sees higher traffic; plan ground time accordingly.

The airport is roughly 15 minutes by road from Road Town, the capital of Tortola, via the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. Most charter passengers are met by hotel car service or private transfer arranged in advance. Taxi service is available at the terminal. For guests heading to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, Anegada, or other BVI islands, the typical connection is by ferry from Road Town or Trellis Bay (adjacent to the airport), or by private boat charter. Helicopter transfers to Virgin Gorda take under 15 minutes and can be arranged through local operators.
