Homer Airport

Homer Airport sits at the edge of the Kenai Peninsula, 84 feet above sea level and a few miles from downtown Homer. For private aviation, it is primarily a destination airport for sport fishing, hunting, and wilderness lodge access. The surrounding region has some of the most productive halibut and salmon fisheries in Alaska, and many charters arrive to connect passengers directly with remote lodges that are otherwise inaccessible by road.

The airport has a single primary runway and basic FBO services. Fuel is available, but plan accordingly given Homer's remote location. Weather on the southern Kenai Peninsula can deteriorate quickly, and instrument approaches may be necessary. Commercial traffic is light, operated by Alaska Airlines, so private traffic is generally straightforward without congestion or slot requirements.

From Homer, float planes and charter aircraft connect to remote camps around Kachemak Bay, Lake Clark National Park, and Katmai National Park. If you are flying in for a lodge stay, confirm with your outfitter whether they arrange onward transport from PAHO or whether you need to arrange a separate float plane or boat connection.

Downtown Homer is about 4 miles from the airport, a 10-minute drive. Rental cars are available at the airport through local operators. Taxi and car service options are limited given the town's size. The Homer Spit, where many fishing charters and water taxis depart, is roughly 5 miles from the airport. Anchorage is 225 miles north via the Sterling and Seward Highways, a drive of approximately 4.5 to 5 hours depending on conditions.
