About Homer FBO Services
Homer Airport sits at the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, two nautical miles east of the town of Homer, and serves as a busy hub for private flights, air taxi operators, charter services, and floatplane traffic. The airport's 6,701-foot paved runway handles a range of aircraft from bush planes to midsize jets, and a separate floatplane facility on nearby Beluga Lake supports water-based operations that are central to summer tourism.
The primary FBO is Kachemak Jet Center, operated by Bald Mountain Air Service, which provides Jet A fueling, hangar space, and a pilot lounge. Bald Mountain Air has operated from Homer since 1993 and also runs a charter fleet of turbine-powered floatplanes for bear viewing flights to Katmai and Lake Clark national parks, two of Alaska's premier wildlife destinations. This dual role as FBO and charter operator means the team understands both ground handling and the logistics of connecting passengers to remote Alaska experiences.
Homer itself is known as the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World" and draws visitors for its dramatic setting on Kachemak Bay, with views across the water to glaciers and volcanic peaks. The Homer Spit, a 4.5-mile gravel bar extending into the bay, hosts restaurants, galleries, and charter fishing operations. Fine dining, craft breweries, and a strong local arts community give the town more polish than most Alaska bush destinations.
For charter passengers, Homer is the jumping-off point for Katmai bear viewing, halibut fishing charters, and wilderness lodge stays across lower Cook Inlet and the Kodiak Archipelago. The airport sees roughly 53,000 annual aircraft operations, making it one of the busier small airports in the state.

Operations at Homer Airport
Downtown Homer is about 4 miles from the airport, a 10-minute drive. Rental cars are available at the airport through local operators. Taxi and car service options are limited given the town's size. The Homer Spit, where many fishing charters and water taxis depart, is roughly 5 miles from the airport. Anchorage is 225 miles north via the Sterling and Seward Highways, a drive of approximately 4.5 to 5 hours depending on conditions.
