Cancún International Airport

Cancún International Airport is one of the highest-traffic airports in Mexico, processing over 30 million passengers annually across its four commercial terminals. Private and charter operations use the General Aviation terminal, which sits apart from the commercial congestion and offers dedicated customs and immigration processing for international arrivals. The airport has no slot restrictions, but ramp space can tighten during peak winter months (December through March) and around major holidays, so coordinating with your FBO in advance is worth doing.

The airport is fully capable of handling large-cabin jets. Runway 12R/30L runs 11,483 feet, which is sufficient for ultra-long-range aircraft on transatlantic routing. Fuel is available at the GA terminal. Mexico requires a general declaration (Gen Dec) for all private international arrivals, and your operator will typically file this along with the flight plan. Overflight permits and landing permits for Mexico must be arranged before departure, typically 72 hours in advance for private operations.

The Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera) runs along a barrier island about 10 miles northeast of the airport, typically a 20-25 minute drive on Highway 307. Downtown Cancún is roughly the same distance but in a different direction, about 15 minutes northwest. Playa del Carmen is 40 miles south, around 45-60 minutes by car depending on traffic. Tulum is 80 miles south, about 90 minutes. Private car service and SUV transfers are the standard option from the GA terminal, and most FBOs can arrange them directly. Helicopter transfers to properties along the Riviera Maya are possible but not commonly offered as a standard service from this airport.
