Adirondack Regional Airport

Adirondack Regional is the closest airport to Lake Placid, putting you 17 miles from the village rather than the 2-plus hour drive from Albany. For ski season at Whiteface Mountain or summer access to the Adirondack Park, this is the practical choice. The airport sits at 1,663 feet MSL in a valley surrounded by the High Peaks, which matters for small-cabin jets on short runways, but the single runway at KSLK runs about 6,600 feet and handles light to midsize jets without issue.

The operation is small and unhurried. Expect a quick ramp-to-car experience with no congestion. FBO services are available on the field. There are no slot requirements and no commercial traffic to compete with.

Lake Placid is 17 miles east on Route 86, a 25 to 30 minute drive depending on season. During ski season weekends, the road through Wilmington can slow. Saranac Lake village is about 3 miles from the airport. Car service options in the area are limited to local operators, so pre-arranging transport is essential. Albany is roughly 130 miles south, about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive. Burlington, Vermont is about 80 miles east, around 1.5 hours.
