Kansas City International Airport

Kansas City International handles both commercial and private traffic, with FBO facilities on the north side of the airport. The main FBO serving private aviation is Signature Flight Support, which offers full-service handling including fuel, catering, and crew accommodations. The airport operates 24 hours and does not have slot restrictions, so scheduling is straightforward compared to congested hub airports.

The terminal complex was rebuilt with a single new terminal that opened in early 2023, consolidating three aging terminals. Private aviation remains separate from the commercial side, so you arrive and depart through the FBO ramp without interaction with the main terminal. Hangar space is available but should be arranged in advance, particularly during major events like Chiefs or Royals games, which can fill ramp space quickly.

Downtown Kansas City is about 15 miles southeast of the airport, a 20 to 25 minute drive under normal conditions. The Country Club Plaza district is roughly 18 miles and 25 to 30 minutes. Car services and black car operators serve the FBO directly; major rental car companies have counters in the commercial terminal a short drive away. There is no direct rail connection to downtown.
