About Sunair Aviation

Sunair Aviation has been the FBO at Leesburg International Airport since 1973, making it one of the longest-tenured operators in central Florida. The facility recently completed an expansion that includes new terminal space and U.S. Customs capability, which opens the airport to international arrivals for the first time.

The airport is located about 35 miles northwest of Orlando in Lake County, providing a much quieter and less congested alternative to the Orlando metro airports. For charter passengers heading to The Villages, one of the largest retirement communities in the country, Leesburg is the closest airport with full FBO services. Mount Dora, Clermont, and the chain of lakes that define this part of Florida are all within a short drive.

Sunair's terminal offers a passenger waiting area, restrooms, and basic refreshments. The facility is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, including most holidays. Rental cars can be arranged, and the FBO staff will help coordinate ground transportation to local destinations.

The airport has a 5,002-foot runway, which accommodates light and midsize jets comfortably. The relatively low traffic volume means minimal taxi delays and fast turnarounds. Fuel prices at Leesburg tend to run below what you would pay at Orlando International or Orlando Executive, making it an economical choice for operators.

Sunair also runs an FAA Part 141 flight school on the field, so the ramp can be active with training aircraft during daylight hours. Hangar space is available for overnight or longer-term storage. The recently added Customs service is a meaningful upgrade for passengers arriving from the Caribbean or Bahamas who want to clear in at a smaller, more relaxed facility.

The Villages, one of the most active charter destinations in central Florida, is about 15 miles north of the airport, a 20-minute drive. Downtown Orlando is roughly 45 miles southeast, typically 45 to 55 minutes depending on traffic on US-441 or the Florida Turnpike. Walt Disney World and the International Drive resort corridor are about 50 miles southeast, around an hour by car. Rental cars and ground transportation should be arranged in advance, as on-site options are limited.
