Capital Region International Airport

KLAN handles both commercial and general aviation traffic, but private operations are largely separated from the commercial terminal. The airport is uncongested by major metropolitan standards, with no slot requirements and straightforward access to FBO ramps. Ground stops and delays are rare here.

The airport sits in DeWitt Township, about 6 miles north of the Michigan State Capitol. It serves passengers heading to state government offices, Michigan State University in East Lansing, and regional corporate destinations across mid-Michigan. It is also a practical alternative to Detroit Metropolitan (DTW) for western Michigan destinations, cutting out 90 miles of ground travel.

FBO facilities on the field handle fuel, hangars, and aircraft services. The airport has a U.S. Customs port of entry for international arrivals, which is useful for inbound flights from Canada, a common route in this region.

Downtown Lansing is 6 miles south, a 15-minute drive under normal conditions. Michigan State University's main campus in East Lansing is about 8 miles southeast, typically 20 minutes by car. Grand Rapids is 65 miles west, roughly an hour's drive. Detroit is 90 miles east, about 1.5 hours depending on I-96 traffic.

Car service and rental cars are available on the field. There is no helicopter transfer service to speak of for this market. For most passengers, a hired car or rental is the standard option.
