Key West International Airport

Key West International has a single runway (9/27) measuring 4,801 feet. That length accommodates light and midsize jets comfortably, but heavy-cabin jets and ultra-long-range aircraft are typically restricted or unable to operate here depending on weight and conditions. If you're planning a transatlantic departure or arriving on a Gulfstream 650, confirm runway compatibility with your operator before booking.

The airport sits about a mile east of the island's residential neighborhoods, and noise abatement procedures apply during nighttime hours. During peak season (January through April), ramp space gets tight. Coordinate with your FBO early, particularly around Fantasy Fest in October and other major events that draw heavy charter traffic.

CBP customs is available on site, which matters if you're flying in from the Bahamas, Cuba, or elsewhere in the Caribbean. Key West is one of the few smaller airports in Florida with a staffed customs facility, making it a practical first point of entry for island-hopping trips.

Downtown Key West and Duval Street are 3 to 4 miles from the terminal, a 10 to 15 minute drive depending on traffic. Taxis and rideshare (Uber and Lyft operate on the island) are available at the airport. Several car rental agencies have counters on site. The island is small enough that most destinations, including the southernmost point, Mallory Square, and the Historic District, are within 15 minutes of the airport. There is no practical ground connection to the mainland; the Overseas Highway (US-1) to Miami runs 160 miles and takes roughly 3.5 to 4 hours, so most passengers arriving by private jet stay on the island or depart by air.
