Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport is Scotland's busiest airport, handling commercial and private traffic on the same runways. Private aircraft use the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) on the north side of the airfield, separate from the main terminal. Prior permission required (PPR) is standard for private arrivals, and slots are recommended well in advance during the Edinburgh Festival in August, which is the peak congestion period. The airport handles international private jet arrivals with full customs and immigration on site.

Noise abatement procedures are in force, with preferred departure routes over less populated areas. Night operations are restricted for louder aircraft categories between 11pm and 6am. Fuel, handling, and aircraft parking are available through the GAT operators. The airfield sits at 135 feet elevation with good ILS approaches on both runways.

Edinburgh city centre is 8 miles east of the airport. A taxi or private car hire takes 20 to 30 minutes under normal traffic conditions, though the A8 corridor into the city can slow significantly at peak hours. A tram line connects the airport to York Place near the east end of Princes Street in about 35 minutes. For golfers heading to St Andrews, the drive is roughly 55 miles northeast via the M90, typically 75 to 90 minutes. The Scottish Highlands are accessible via the A9 north of Perth, approximately 90 minutes from the airport to Pitlochry.
