Gatwick is a Level 3 slot-coordinated airport, meaning every private departure and arrival requires a confirmed slot booked through the Airport Coordination Limited (ACL) system. Operators typically need to file well in advance, particularly during busy summer months and around major UK events. Last-minute or same-day slots are occasionally available but cannot be relied upon.

Private aviation at Gatwick operates through Signature Flight Support, the dedicated FBO on the south side of the airfield, separate from the North and South commercial terminals. The facility offers its own check-in, lounges, and customs processing, so private passengers avoid the main terminal entirely. Handling is professional and well-practiced given the volume of private traffic the airport sees.

Gatwick operates under a night noise quota system with significant restrictions between 11pm and 6am. Departures during this window are tightly controlled, and in practice most private operators schedule movements outside these hours. The airport does not close entirely at night, but quiet aircraft types are required to use any remaining quota, and many jets will not qualify for late-night slots.

Central London is 28 miles north, typically 50 to 75 minutes by car depending on traffic on the M23 and M25. The Gatwick Express train runs directly to London Victoria in 30 minutes and departs every 15 minutes during peak hours. Signature Flight Support can arrange chauffeur transfers directly to and from the FBO apron.

Helicopter transfers to the London Heliport at Battersea take approximately 15 minutes and are a practical option when road traffic is heavy. For passengers heading to Surrey, Sussex, or the south coast, the airport's southern position is an advantage over Heathrow or Luton.
