Southampton Airport

Southampton is a commercial regional airport that also handles private jet traffic. It sits 4 miles north of Southampton city centre and about 75 miles southwest of London. For passengers heading to Hampshire, the New Forest, Winchester, or the Isle of Wight ferry terminals, it avoids the longer drive from Farnborough or Bournemouth.

The airport operates with a night noise abatement curfew, so schedule arrivals and departures accordingly. Slot coordination is required during busy periods. As a mixed commercial and general aviation airport, expect some shared taxiway use and potentially longer ground times than a dedicated private terminal like Farnborough. FBO handling is available on the south side of the airfield.

Customs and immigration facilities are on site, covering both EU and non-EU arrivals. The airport is well-suited for light to midsize jets. Larger heavy jets may find ramp space or runway length more limiting depending on load and conditions.

Southampton Airport Parkway railway station is a 3-minute walk from the terminal, with direct trains to London Waterloo in around 60 to 80 minutes. Southampton city centre is 4 miles south, about 10 to 15 minutes by car. Winchester is 11 miles north via the M3, roughly 15 minutes. Portsmouth is about 20 miles east on the M27, typically 25 to 30 minutes. Bournemouth is 35 miles west, around 40 minutes. Car hire and private car services are available at the airport. The Red Funnel and Wightlink ferry terminals for the Isle of Wight are in Southampton city centre, about 15 minutes from the airport.
