Hato International Airport

Hato International Airport is the only commercial and private aviation airport on Curaçao, handling all international arrivals to the island. For private passengers, the airport offers customs and immigration clearance on arrival, which is straightforward for US and EU passport holders given Curaçao's status as a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. General aviation and charter flights use the same airfield as commercial traffic, so expect some coordination with tower during peak commercial periods, typically late morning and mid-afternoon when transatlantic and Caribbean connections bank.

The airport sits at sea level with a single main runway. Weather is generally favorable year-round: Curaçao sits outside the hurricane belt and receives under 20 inches of rain annually. Afternoon crosswinds from the east can be a factor, but delays from weather are uncommon compared to other Caribbean destinations. FBO services are available on the field for fuel, ground handling, and passenger services.

Willemstad's historic district, including the Pietermaai and Punda neighborhoods, is about 8 miles southeast of the airport. Taxis are available curbside at arrivals and the drive runs 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic on the main corridor through Julianadorp and Otrobanda. Fixed taxi rates apply on the island; confirm the rate before departure. Car rental desks operate in the terminal for passengers who prefer to self-drive. The island is compact enough that most resort areas and the main marina at Spanish Water are reachable within 30 minutes.
