Kahului International Airport
PHOG is the ICAO code for Kahului International Airport (IATA OGG), located in Kahului, HI.
Maui's main airport for private jet arrivals, serving all major resort areas on the island from a central location in Kahului.
Airport guide
Kahului handles all commercial and most private jet traffic into Maui. For passengers flying heavy or super-midsize jets, this is the airport. The parallel runways (2,130m and 3,048m) can accommodate large-cabin aircraft, which smaller Maui airports cannot.
The airport is busy. Maui's seasonal peaks, particularly December through March and June through August, bring congestion on the ramp and at the FBO. Signature Flight Support is the primary FBO. Book ramp space in advance during high season. There are noise abatement procedures in effect late at night, and the FAA has historically imposed restrictions on certain approaches.
If your destination is West Maui (Kapalua, Kaanapali, Lahaina), check whether Kapalua Airport (PHJH) works for your aircraft. It's about 6 miles from the Kaanapali resort strip and cuts the ground transfer significantly, though it's limited to turboprops and smaller jets. For Wailea, Kihei, and the south shore, Kahului is the right choice regardless.
Getting there
West Maui resorts (Kaanapali, Kapalua) are roughly 27 miles from the airport, typically 40 to 55 minutes by car depending on traffic on Route 30. Wailea and South Maui are about 17 miles south, usually 25 to 35 minutes. Hana is 52 miles by road, but the Road to Hana is a two-lane winding route that takes 2.5 to 3 hours each way.
Rental cars are the standard choice. Rideshare and taxi service is available. Helicopter transfers to remote areas of Maui (or to neighboring islands) operate from the airport, with Maui's helicopter tour operators also offering charter point-to-point service.
