Gustavus Airport

Gustavus Airport is a state-operated, non-towered field serving one of the most remote communities in Southeast Alaska. With no road connection to the outside highway system, air is the primary way in and out. The 6,700-foot paved runway accommodates most light and midsize jets without restriction.

The airport is uncontrolled and relatively quiet outside of summer peak season, when Alaska Airlines seasonal service and a surge in park visitors increase traffic. Private arrivals during summer should expect more pattern activity. The terminal is small and basic. FBO services are limited compared to what passengers expect at larger Alaskan airports, so coordinate fuel and ground handling in advance with your operator.

The town of Gustavus is roughly 2 miles from the airport by road. Most lodges and the Glacier Bay Lodge (inside the park at Bartlett Cove, 10 miles away) offer shuttle pickup with advance notice. Rental cars are available through a small local outfit but inventory is very limited, especially in summer. There is no rideshare service. If you're heading directly into the park, arrange transfers through your lodge or the park concessionaire before arrival.
