Auckland International Airport

Auckland International Airport is the busiest airport in New Zealand and the main entry point for international private charter flights into the country. The airport operates 24 hours but enforces a night noise curfew affecting certain aircraft categories between 11pm and 6am. Operators flying heavier or older airframes should confirm noise certification requirements with the airport before scheduling late arrivals or early departures.

Private and charter flights use the general aviation apron on the eastern side of the airfield. Customs and Immigration clearance is available at Auckland for international arrivals, which makes it practical for trans-Tasman and Pacific routes without needing to clear elsewhere. Slot coordination is not required for most charter operations, but ground handlers should be pre-arranged, particularly for international clearances on weekends when staffing is reduced.

Ardmore Airport (NZAR), about 25 km southeast, is an alternative for lighter aircraft or operators wanting to avoid the busier NZAA environment. Ardmore has no customs facility, so it suits domestic positioning flights only.

Auckland CBD (Britomart, Viaduct Harbour) is 21 km north of the airport. In normal traffic the drive takes 30 to 40 minutes via State Highway 20A and the Southern Motorway. During morning and evening peak hours, allow 60 to 75 minutes. Executive car services and taxis are available curbside. Uber operates at the airport. Rental car desks are in the terminal forecourt.

Parnell, Newmarket, and the North Shore require additional travel time beyond the CBD figures. Waiheke Island, a common destination for private visitors, is reached via ferry from downtown Auckland (35 minutes from the Ferry Building). Helicopter transfers from the airport to Waiheke or the Hauraki Gulf islands can be arranged through local operators.
