Normans Cay Airport

Normans Cay Airport is a grass and paved strip on a small private island in the Exuma chain. There is no commercial service here. Everyone who arrives comes by private aircraft or private boat, which makes it one of the more genuinely exclusive destinations reachable by charter in the Bahamas.

The island is small enough that the airport sits within walking distance of the beach and the island's only restaurant. Facilities are minimal: no FBO in the commercial sense, no fuel guarantee, and no on-site maintenance. Passengers should confirm fuel availability before departure and plan accordingly. The strip accommodates light jets and turboprops; larger aircraft should not attempt it.

Normans Cay has a specific history worth knowing. In the early 1980s the island was controlled by the Medellin Cartel and used as a drug transit point. A Curtiss C-46 cargo plane from that era sits submerged in the shallows just off the island's coast and is visible from the air on approach. It is now a snorkeling and diving site.

The island is roughly 1.5 miles long. Ground transport is golf carts. There are no taxis, no rental cars, and no road connection to any other island. MacDuff's Beach Bar and Restaurant is the primary destination on the island and is reachable on foot from the airstrip in a few minutes. If you are staying elsewhere in the Exumas, Nassau or Staniel Cay are the nearest practical alternatives with more services.
