Gibraltar Airport

Gibraltar Airport occupies almost the entire width of the isthmus connecting Gibraltar to mainland Spain. The runway is 1,680 meters long, which limits aircraft to midsize jets and smaller. Larger heavy jets cannot operate here. If you need to arrive on a heavy or ultra-long-range aircraft, Málaga Airport (AGP) is the practical alternative, about 130 kilometers to the northeast.

The airport is a short walk from Gibraltar's city center. On the ground you will clear UK Border Force customs and immigration, not EU controls. Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory outside the EU Customs Union and Schengen Area. Bring your passport regardless of where you are flying from. Private terminals are limited, so expect a more functional experience than at a larger FBO-served airport.

The most unusual feature at LXGB is Winston Churchill Avenue, a public road that crosses the active runway. Ground traffic lights stop cars when aircraft are using the runway. This is not a concern for passengers, but it does affect vehicle access timing when you are being driven to or from the apron.

Gibraltar city center is roughly one mile from the terminal. Taxis are available and the journey takes under five minutes. The border crossing into Spain at La Línea de la Concepción is immediately adjacent to the airport perimeter. From La Línea, Marbella is about 60 kilometers east along the AP-7, roughly 45 minutes by car. Málaga city is about 130 kilometers northeast, approximately 90 minutes. The border crossing can add time depending on queue conditions, especially during summer and public holidays.
