Cherry Capital Airport

Cherry Capital Airport is the primary commercial and private aviation airport for the Grand Traverse region. It handles jet traffic year-round, with peaks in July during the National Cherry Festival and in winter when skiers head to Crystal Mountain and Boyne Mountain. The airport is uncongested by major-market standards and requires no slots.

The FBO ramp is close to the terminal, and the overall footprint is small enough that you can be in a car within minutes of wheels down. Private passengers clear through the general aviation side without interacting with commercial traffic.

The airport sits at 1,361 feet elevation and is surrounded by northern Michigan terrain. Winter operations are routine here, but plan for de-icing needs from November through March. Summer weekends in July and August see increased traffic, though nothing that creates meaningful delays for private arrivals.

Downtown Traverse City is 3 miles from the airport, about 10 minutes by car. Rental cars are available at the terminal. Car service can be arranged through local providers, though options are more limited than in major metros. Pre-booking is recommended, especially during festival weekends in July.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is roughly 30 miles west (40 minutes). Leelanau Peninsula wine country starts about 20 miles northwest. Crystal Mountain ski resort is 28 miles south, around 35 minutes. Petoskey and Charlevoix are each about 50 miles northeast on US-31, typically an hour's drive.
