About Avflight Traverse City
Avflight Traverse City is the sole FBO at Cherry Capital Airport, serving as the gateway to northern Michigan's wine country, freshwater coastline, and resort communities. The facility offers concierge services, a pilot lounge with Wi-Fi and satellite television, flight planning resources, courtesy vehicles, and on-site rental cars. Condo-style box hangars with direct ramp access provide covered aircraft storage for based and transient aircraft.
A new 6,000-square-foot FBO terminal is planned, which will significantly upgrade the passenger experience from the current facility. Until that project is completed, the existing terminal provides functional amenities that get the job done without luxury frills.
Traverse City is consistently ranked among Michigan's top vacation destinations. The Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas extending north into Grand Traverse Bay are home to over 40 wineries producing acclaimed Riesling, Pinot Noir, and sparkling wines. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, voted the "Most Beautiful Place in America" by Good Morning America viewers, is 25 miles west. The National Cherry Festival in July and the Traverse City Film Festival founded by Michael Moore draw summer crowds.
The FBO adjusts its hours seasonally, with extended summer hours to accommodate the peak tourism season from Memorial Day through Labor Day. De-icing and anti-icing services are available during winter months, when the region transforms into a ski and snowmobile destination with Crystal Mountain and Shanty Creek resorts within a 30-minute drive.
The airport's primary runway, 10/28, is 6,501 feet and handles midsize jets. For passengers heading to northern Michigan for wine, beaches, or fall color season, Avflight Traverse City provides the most direct air access to the region.
