Tucson International Airport

Tucson International sits at 2,643 feet elevation in the Sonoran Desert, about 9 miles south of downtown. It handles commercial and general aviation on the same field, with dedicated FBO ramps that keep private arrivals clear of airline traffic. Signature Flight Support is the primary FBO, offering full-service fueling, hangars, and a passenger lounge. The airport has no slot requirements and no prior permission needed for Part 135 operations.

Customs and Border Protection maintains a presence at KTUS given the proximity to the Mexican border, and international arrivals can clear customs here. The airport operates around the clock. No formal noise curfew is published, though the surrounding residential areas mean pilots observe standard noise abatement procedures on departure. Ramp congestion is rarely an issue outside of major events like the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in February, which draws significant charter traffic.

Downtown Tucson is 9 miles north of the airport, about 15 minutes by car in normal traffic. The University of Arizona campus is roughly the same distance. The resort corridor in the Foothills (Loews Ventana Canyon, Miraval, and properties near Sabino Canyon) runs 20 to 30 minutes north depending on destination. Dove Mountain and Saguaro National Park West are about 35 to 40 minutes. Car service and rental cars are both available at the airport. Ride-share pickup is at the commercial terminal; FBO staff can coordinate car service for private arrivals directly to the ramp.
