Syracuse Hancock International Airport

Syracuse Hancock is a commercial airport with dedicated FBO facilities for private aviation. Unlike New York City-area airports, there are no slot restrictions or prior permission requirements, so scheduling is straightforward. Signature Flight Support operates the primary FBO with full ground handling, fuel, and crew services.

The airport has no nighttime curfew and operates around the clock, which makes it practical for early departures or late arrivals. Ramp congestion is rarely an issue outside of major Syracuse University football weekends and the New York State Fair in late August, when transient traffic spikes noticeably.

KSYR is the practical gateway for the Finger Lakes region, the Thousand Islands, and the Adirondacks. It draws charter traffic for Cornell and Colgate alumni events, wine country visits, and winter ski trips headed toward Lake Placid.

Downtown Syracuse is about 4 miles from the airport, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by car. Car rental counters are available in the terminal, and ground transportation services can be arranged through the FBO. Skaneateles, one of the most sought-after Finger Lakes destinations, is about 20 miles southwest, a 25-minute drive. Cooperstown is approximately 75 miles southeast, around 90 minutes. Lake Placid is about 145 miles northeast, a 2.5-hour drive. No helicopter transfer services operate regularly from KSYR.
