Dane County Regional Truax Field

Dane County Regional sits 4 miles northeast of downtown Madison, making it the obvious choice for travelers headed to the Capitol, the University of Wisconsin, or the broader state government corridor. It handles both commercial and general aviation traffic, but private operations use dedicated FBO ramps that keep the experience separated from the terminal crowds.

No slot requirements or pre-departure clearances apply to private aircraft here. The airport is uncontrolled at lower activity periods, and private passengers typically see quick ramp-to-car times. SC Aviation is the active FBO presence on the field, offering fuel, hangars, and ground support. The airport operates around the clock, though noise-sensitive residential areas nearby mean operators generally avoid unnecessary low-altitude maneuvering late at night.

Downtown Madison and the Capitol Square are roughly 4 miles and 10 to 15 minutes by car. The University of Wisconsin campus is about the same distance southwest. Car service and rental cars are available at the FBO. Monona Terrace convention center is under 15 minutes. For longer trips, Milwaukee is 80 miles east (about 1.5 hours by car) and Chicago is 135 miles south (roughly 2 hours depending on traffic near the Illinois state line).
