Smyrna Airport sits in Rutherford County and is the practical choice for private aviation passengers headed to Nashville's southern suburbs, Murfreesboro, or anywhere in Middle Tennessee. The airport shares the field with the Tennessee Air National Guard's 118th Wing, which means the infrastructure is maintained to military standards and the runways are built for heavy aircraft. The primary runway (14/32) runs 8,049 feet, accommodating large-cabin jets without restriction.

For private passengers, the main advantage over Nashville International (BNA) is the absence of airline congestion. No slot requirements, no ground holds waiting behind commercial traffic, and typically faster in-and-out times. Passengers flying into the Nashville area for events at Nissan Stadium, the Bridgestone Arena, or destinations south of the city often find Smyrna the faster option door-to-door despite the slightly longer ground transfer.

Downtown Nashville is 22 miles northwest, a 30 to 40 minute drive depending on traffic on I-24. Murfreesboro city center is roughly 12 miles southeast, about 15 minutes by car.
