Helena Regional Airport

Helena Regional Airport handles both commercial and general aviation traffic without the congestion you find at larger western hubs. There are no slot requirements and no prior permission needed to operate here. The airport sits at 3,874 feet elevation, which affects aircraft performance calculations, particularly in summer when density altitude climbs.

The FBO serves corporate and charter traffic for state government visitors, ranching and mining interests, and outdoor recreation. Montana's legislature meets in Helena, so traffic spikes during legislative sessions (typically January through April in odd-numbered years). Outside those windows, ramp space is rarely an issue. Expect straightforward ground handling and short taxi times.

Downtown Helena is 3 miles from the terminal, roughly 8 minutes by car. Car rentals are available at the airport. Bozeman is about 90 miles east (1 hour 20 minutes), Missoula is 115 miles west (1 hour 45 minutes), and Great Falls is 90 miles north (1 hour 20 minutes). For access to the Bob Marshall Wilderness or Gates of the Mountains area, Helena is a practical staging point. No helicopter transfer services operate regularly from KHLN.
