Cavern City Air Terminal

KCNM sits at 3,295 feet elevation on the eastern edge of the Permian Basin, and the majority of private traffic here is energy industry. Oil and gas operators, well-site visits, and crew rotations drive most of the charter demand. That means the FBO is accustomed to quick turns and flexible scheduling rather than leisure-pace service.

The airport is uncontrolled with a part-time ATCT. There are no slot requirements and no known noise curfews. Ramp space is not a constraint at this facility. If you are arriving for Carlsbad Caverns, plan for a ground transfer since the park entrance is not walkable from town.

Carlsbad's city center is about 4 miles north of the airport, a 10-minute drive. Carlsbad Caverns National Park visitor center is approximately 23 miles southwest via US-62/180, typically 25 to 30 minutes by car. Car rental is available at the airport though inventory is limited, and advance reservations are advisable. Rideshare coverage in Carlsbad is sparse; arrange a car service or rental ahead of arrival. Artesia is 35 miles north (35 minutes). Midland, TX is roughly 165 miles southeast, about 2.5 hours by road.
