St. Louis Regional Airport sits on the bluffs above the Mississippi River in Alton, Illinois, roughly 20 miles from downtown St. Louis. It handles no commercial airline traffic, which means no congestion, no slot requirements, and ramp access without the delays that come with Lambert-St. Louis International. For private charter passengers heading to St. Louis, the metro area's north side, or the Illinois riverfront communities, KALN is a practical alternative to Lambert.
