Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Schiphol is a fully slot-coordinated (Level 3) airport. Every movement, including private jets, requires a prior slot. For short-notice charters, this is the most operationally complex part of flying in or out of Amsterdam. Plan for slot requests at least 24 hours in advance; same-day approval is possible but not guaranteed, especially during peak periods.

The airport operates a noise quota system rather than a hard curfew. Aircraft movements between 11pm and 6am local time draw heavily from an annual noise budget, and noisier aircraft categories can exhaust their quota quickly. Older business jets may face practical restrictions during night hours even if they are not explicitly banned. Operators flying in these windows should confirm quota availability before booking.

Business aviation uses a dedicated apron and handling facility separate from the commercial terminals. Signature Flight Support operates the main FBO on the general aviation side. Customs and immigration are available on-site, making Schiphol a common entry point for transatlantic and intercontinental private flights into the Netherlands.

Amsterdam city center (Dam Square) is 17 km from the airport. By car or car service, the drive takes 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour and 45 to 60 minutes during peak traffic on the A4 and A10. The Hague is 47 km, roughly 35 to 45 minutes. Rotterdam is 60 km, 50 to 60 minutes under normal conditions.

Schiphol has a train station directly below the main terminal with frequent direct service to Amsterdam Centraal in 15 to 17 minutes. For private aviation, most passengers use pre-arranged car service, which FBOs can coordinate. Helicopter transfers to the city are technically possible but uncommon due to Amsterdam's restricted airspace and lack of central helipads.
