Calgary International Airport

CYYC handles a significant volume of private aviation driven by Calgary's oil and gas industry. Business charter traffic is heavy on Monday mornings and Thursday evenings. The airport is open 24 hours and has no hard noise curfew, though standard noise abatement procedures apply on certain runways late at night.

Two FBOs serve the GA ramp: Signature Flight Support and Skyservice FBO. Both offer full de-icing capability, which matters from October through April. Calgary can see rapid weather changes, including ground blizzards in otherwise clear conditions, so confirming de-icing availability when booking winter departures is worth doing. Hangar space is in demand; arrange it ahead of time if you need overnight storage.

Customs and immigration for international arrivals are handled on-airport. Canada Border Services Agency is available, but pre-clearance is not an option here, so international arrivals need to budget extra time for CBSA processing. CANPASS Private Aircraft is the fastest option for US-Canada general aviation crossings if your operator is enrolled.

Downtown Calgary is about 11 miles southwest and takes 20 to 30 minutes by car, depending on traffic on Deerfoot Trail. The drive is straightforward with no tolls. Most FBOs can arrange dedicated car service or coordinate with local providers like Prestige Transportation.

Banff is 80 miles west and takes roughly 90 minutes by car via the Trans-Canada Highway. Canmore, the closest Rockies town, is about 70 miles and 75 minutes. For guests heading to Banff or Lake Louise, private SUV transfers are the standard option; helicopter transfers from CYYC to Banff-area helipads are available through operators in the region but require advance coordination.
