Windsor International Airport

Windsor International Airport sits on the Canadian side of the Detroit River, making it a practical alternative to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport for passengers headed to either city. The airport handles commercial and general aviation traffic without the congestion or complexity of a major hub, and there are no slot requirements or prior permission needed for private arrivals.

Chartright Air Group operates the FBO at CYQG, handling fuel, ground handling, and ramp services for private aircraft. Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) processes international arrivals on-site, so transiting between the US and Canada is straightforward without diverting to a separate port of entry.

The airport is smaller and quieter than DTW, which means shorter taxi times and faster turnarounds. Passengers coming from the US who want to avoid Detroit's Class B airspace and busy approaches sometimes route through Windsor instead.

Downtown Windsor is about 5 miles from the terminal, a 10 to 15 minute drive. Detroit is accessible via the Ambassador Bridge or the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, roughly 20 to 30 minutes from the airport depending on border crossing wait times. Car rental desks are available at the airport. For passengers heading to the Detroit metro area, ground transport time is comparable to using DTW once you account for the smaller airport's faster deplaning and customs process.
