Grand Bahama International Airport

Grand Bahama International Airport is the primary entry point for private aviation into Grand Bahama Island. The flight from South Florida takes roughly 30 minutes, making this one of the shortest international trips available to US charter passengers. It sees steady private traffic from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Palm Beach.

The airport sustained significant damage from Hurricane Dorian in September 2019 and has been operating in a reduced capacity since. Passengers should confirm current FBO services and handling availability before scheduling a trip, as facilities have continued to evolve through the reconstruction period. Customs and immigration are on site for international arrivals.

For departures back to the US, US Customs pre-clearance has historically been available at Freeport, which lets you land stateside as a domestic arrival. Verify current pre-clearance status with your handler before the trip, as post-Dorian service levels have fluctuated.

Downtown Freeport is about 4 miles from the airport, a 10-minute taxi ride. The Port Lucaya Marketplace and resort area along the waterfront is roughly 7 miles southeast, around 15 minutes by car. Taxis are available at the airport. Rental cars are available though selection may be limited given reduced post-Dorian tourism volume. There is no scheduled ferry or water taxi connection from the airport itself.
