Puerto Vallarta International Airport (officially Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport) handles commercial and private traffic on the same airfield, with a dedicated general aviation apron on the north side. The airport sits at sea level just north of Marina Vallarta, which means ramp space and parking can get tight during peak winter and holiday periods when inbound charter and private traffic surges alongside commercial flights.

Flying into Mexico privately requires advance paperwork. Pilots must file an international flight plan, submit APIS passenger manifests, and arrange landing permits ahead of arrival. For passengers, this means your operator handles the administrative load, but build in extra time if your operator is filing close to departure. Customs and immigration clear on arrival at the airport, so there is no need to connect through another Mexican airport.

The airport does not have a standalone FBO in the US sense, but private handlers are available and ground support including fuel, catering, and crew services can be arranged through local handling agents. Confirm your handler in advance, particularly during Semana Santa (Holy Week), Christmas, and New Year's when ramp space and slots are under pressure.

Marina Vallarta and the northern hotel zone are 10 minutes by car. Downtown Puerto Vallarta and the Malecón are about 5 miles south, typically 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic on Highway 200. Nuevo Vallarta, just across the Nayarit state line, is 15 minutes north. Punta Mita, home to several luxury resort and villa enclaves, is roughly 35 miles north and takes 45 to 55 minutes by car. Car service and SUV transfers are available through the handling agents and local operators. Helicopter transfers to Punta Mita or remote coastal properties are possible given the geography, though less commonly arranged than in destinations with dedicated helipad infrastructure.
