Samedan Airport

Samedan is the primary airport for St. Moritz and the Engadin valley, and at 1,707 meters (5,600 feet) above sea level, it is one of the highest airports in Europe. The elevation has real consequences: aircraft performance is reduced, and operators will sometimes restrict payload or fuel loads on larger jets to compensate. If you are flying in a heavy jet with a full party and luggage, confirm with your operator that the aircraft can handle the field at your planned weight.

Slots are mandatory and availability is tight during the ski season, roughly December through March, and especially compressed during major events such as the World Economic Forum in Davos (typically late January) and Formula E and polo events in St. Moritz. Book slots as early as possible for January and February travel. Summer sees lighter traffic but the airport remains active for hiking and cycling guests through August.

The airport has customs and immigration facilities, so transatlantic and international arrivals can clear on-site. The terminal is small and FBO services are available, with handling coordinated through local ground agents. Noise restrictions apply during evening and overnight hours, which limits flexibility for late arrivals.

St. Moritz is 6 km from the airport, about 10 minutes by car. Pontresina is 3 km away. Private car transfers are the standard option and can be arranged through your handler or hotel concierge. Davos is approximately 50 km via mountain passes, roughly 45 to 60 minutes depending on road conditions and season. Zurich is about 2.5 to 3 hours by road. Helicopter transfers are used by guests accessing remote chalets or crossing to other Alpine resorts when mountain conditions and airspace permit.
