About Air Center San Diego
Air Center San Diego is the primary FBO at Brown Field Municipal Airport, located in the Otay Mesa community just 1.5 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border. The operation acquired the former San Diego Jet Center's assets and is building a new 14,400-square-foot terminal with 74,000 square feet of hangar space, positioning it as a significant upgrade for private aviation in southern San Diego County.
Brown Field functions as a landing rights airport and U.S. port of entry from Mexico, with Customs and Border Protection requiring at least one hour of advance notice for international arrivals. This makes the airport a practical option for passengers arriving from Baja California, including the growing number of travelers visiting Valle de Guadalupe wine country and the Ensenada coastline. The airport's uncongested airspace stands in sharp contrast to the slot-restricted environment at San Diego International.
The facility provides contract fuel, hangar storage, and ground support equipment. The new terminal, when completed, will include lounges, office space, and meeting rooms designed for corporate and charter passengers. Current operations focus on efficient ground handling with plane-side vehicle service.
Brown Field's primary runway, 8R/26L, stretches 7,972 feet and handles midsize and super-midsize jets. Downtown San Diego is about 15 miles northwest via the 905 and I-5 freeways, and the Otay Mesa border crossing into Tijuana is minutes away. For passengers who prioritize customs convenience for Mexico-origin flights or want to avoid the higher costs and congestion at KSAN, Air Center San Diego offers a viable alternative with room to grow as its new facilities come online.
