Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport

KROC handles both scheduled commercial service and private aviation on the same field. There are no slot restrictions and no prior permission required for private arrivals. The airport is uncongested by any measure, and ramp access is fast. FBO services are available on the field.

US Customs and Border Protection maintains a presence at the airport, which makes KROC a practical entry point for flights from Canada. Rochester sits roughly 90 miles east of Buffalo and 90 miles west of Syracuse, so passengers flying into either of those cities on private often use KROC instead to avoid the longer drive.

The airport is operationally 24 hours. There are noise abatement procedures in place for overnight operations, though no hard curfew prohibits late arrivals or early departures.

Downtown Rochester is 4 miles from the terminal, roughly a 10-15 minute drive in normal traffic. Car service and rental cars are available at the airport. The Finger Lakes wine country starts about 30 miles south near Canandaigua and Seneca Lake, a 35-45 minute drive. The University of Rochester and Rochester Medical Center are both within 15 minutes of the airport. Buffalo is 90 miles west on I-90, about 1 hour 15 minutes by car.
